Huron is the second largest Great Lake by area (59,600 km²), with a deeply broken shoreline and the Georgian Bay. It holds Manitoulin, the largest lake island in the world.
Despite its broad surface, Huron is relatively shallow, with a mean depth of about 59 m. It therefore holds 3,540 km³ of water, less than the smaller but deeper Michigan.
